ADOS(2) Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule
The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-Second Edition (ADOS-2) is an activity-based assessment administered by trained clinicians to assess communication skills, social interaction, and imaginative use of materials in individuals who are suspected to have autism spectrum disorder. The ADOS-2 is currently considered the “gold standard” in the assessment of ASD.
The assessment takes up to an hour. A parent is requested to remain present for children aged 5 and under. Over 5's will be alone with the clinician unless they present as very anxious. The assessment will take place at one of our therapy rooms or can be completed in your home if you feel this is better for your child.
The ADOS-2 is designed for individuals as young as 12-months of age all the way through adulthood. At Bucks child and baby services we assess children aged 3 upwards. For individuals to adequately participate in the assessment, the ADOS-2 requires a minimum developmental level of 12-months and no significant sensory or motor impairments (e.g., blindness, deafness, confined to wheelchair).
This assessment can accommodate people across the lifespan because it comprises several modules. Clinicians select the appropriate module for an individual based upon the person’s language ability (ranging from no speech to verbally fluent) and age.
A child autism assessment consists of:
- Completion of Screening Information
- Completion of Questionnaires
- ADI-r Interview with Parent/Carer (online, via telephone or in person)
- Observation at a Clinic using the ADOS-2 (up to one hour)
- Liaison with the child/young person's education setting
- A detailed Report
Total cost of assessment £895.00
